Based in the Wellington region of the North Island of New Zealand, the Wellington Messabout Group is a group of like minded small boat enthusiasts who get together to sail, row, build and share their passion for small boats. We have regular "messabout" sailing gatherings as well as social events.
What Kind of boats?
So what kind of boats are we talking about - well generally they are trailerable boats with a classic or traditional origin between 8 to 20 feet and often home built. Many boats in the group have been home built from plans from designers such as John Welsford (NZ), Iain Oughtred (UK), Ross Lillistone (Aus), Michael Storer (Aus) Francois Vivier (Fra). Go to the Gallery Page above to see some members boats.

Messabout Gatherings
Messabouts are currently on an occasional basis usually once a month on a Sunday beginning at about 11.00am and finishing about 4.00pm. **Note** Times may vary due to tides and limitations of particular boat ramps. Participants bring their own wooden boats and a picnic lunch but often there may be room for people who would like a sail. Venues change each time to explore different waterways in the Wellington area. Our Forum Page is where members share information about Messabout gatherings, building and whatever else crosses their mind. Our Blog Page has some great write ups of previous events to give you an idea of what we do. |
